The University of Nottingham Malaysia is seeking a Shift Technician (Electrical) to join our Estate Department.

The Shift Technician is responsible for the operational monitoring, inspection and general maintenance of electrical and building services systems across the campus during assigned rotational shifts. The role ensures routine checks, incident response and reporting are carried out effectively and in accordance with Estate procedures, supporting a safe, reliable and continuous campus environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, inspect and maintain electrical and building services systems across the campus.
  • Carry out routine inspections, basic troubleshooting and planned preventive maintenance activities.
  • Respond to technical issues, alarms, complaints and emergencies during assigned shifts.
  • Identify and report abnormal conditions, escalating issues to the Executive / Team Leader where required.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders and shift reports using MaintainX or similar systems.
  • Support technicians, contractors and vendors in maintenance and repair activities.
  • Participate in shift handovers, briefings and emergency response activities.
  • Ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with SOPs, LOTO requirements and relevant regulations.

Job Requirements:

  • A Certificate or Diploma in Electrical, Building Services or a related technical field.
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience in electrical maintenance, facilities management or technical support.
  • Basic knowledge of Low Voltage (LV) electrical systems and building services.
  • Good understanding of electrical safety requirements and relevant regulations, including Suruhanjaya Tenaga guidelines.
  • Experience in electrical/mechanical troubleshooting, repair, inspection and routine maintenance.
  • Ability to read and understand basic electrical diagrams and technical drawings.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical panels and distribution boards (DB), HVAC systems, pumps and water systems, and fire protection systems.
  • Ability to identify abnormal conditions, carry out basic troubleshooting and report findings accurately.
  • Good understanding of SOPs, safety procedures and safe working practices.
  • Basic reporting and documentation skills.
  • Responsible, safety-conscious and willing to learn.
  • Good teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently when required.
  • Willing and able to work on a full-time rotational shift basis, including morning, evening and night shifts.
  • Willing to work weekends and public holidays according to operational requirements.
  • Comfortable working in plant rooms, confined spaces and outdoor environments.
  • Physically able to perform routine inspection and maintenance activities.
