Role Purpose

The Design & Training Manager leads the two year programme by ensuring planning, facilitating, and monitoring the delivery of the PDG Curriculum in alignment with the PDG mission to build upon existing systems to improve the capability of Malaysian public-school teachers in order to enhance students' interest and competency in STEM subjects and their higher order thinking skills, in particular for the underprivileged, in line with Teach For Malaysia’s Theory of Leadership.

The individual will lead a team to design, implement, and continuously improve Program Duta Guru’s curriculum while working closely within the Training & Support function which consists of Coaching & Support team members and Duta Guru Community as well as any relevant external stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Programme Leadership and Stakeholder Management

  • Collaborate as part of the PDG leadership team, collaborate with other managers in PDG to
    • ensure internal alignment on key decisions and programmatic approach with a focus on transformational student impact
    • monitor, evaluate and report programmatic impact against delivery of Program Duta Guru goals
    • foster a sustainable and collaborative team culture to ensure that PDG and TFM goals are met
    • ensure robust project management of PDG within scope, timeframe and budget in order to achieve Participant and student impact
    • manage impact review cycles internally and externally to continuously improve programme implementation.
  • Cultivate and maintain collaboration with education ecosystem stakeholders to ensure curriculum relevance, coherence, and sustainability.
  • Manage and monitor budgets for training events and team activities, ensuring resources are efficiently allocated and aligned to programme priorities.
  • Oversee the documentation, reporting, and communication of programme outcomes and training impact for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Any other responsibilities assigned as required to support the needs of the team and organisation where appropriate.

Lead and review PDG Curriculum

  • Lead the end-to-end development, contextualisation, and delivery of high-quality training programmes for teachers, in collaboration with internal specialists, external subject matter experts, and education stakeholders.
  • Guide the continuous evaluation of training impact and curriculum effectiveness, using data to inform improvements and ensure that learning objectives are met.
  • Lead and participate in regular in-house training and development with the Training & Support team and wider TFM organisation to build internal capacity.

Oversee and Improve the PDG 2-year Curriculum

  • Lead the development and improvement of blended modules that will support participants’ leadership and pedagogical development during the 2 year program.
  • Direct the improvement of existing learning structures and experiences according to PDG learning bets.
  • Oversee the compilation of existing curriculum to be published for scalability of program.
  • Set the standards for capturing strong teacher classroom exemplars to be incorporated in training.

Build Capacity of internal and external trainers to facilitate delivery of the PDG Curriculum

  • Oversee the engagement of internal and external teacher trainers to deliver virtual and in-person blended learning modules.
  • Design and conduct train-the-trainer sessions for internal and external teacher trainers to equip skills and mindset to deliver a strong learning experience for Participants.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with cross-functional teams ensure delivery of training events.
  • Direct the contextualisation of blended learning modules for different regions in collaboration with the Coaching & Support team.

Monitor effectiveness of the PDG Curriculum

  • Guide the evaluation of participants’ learning experiences in accordance with the monitoring indicators, e.g. attendance, satisfaction, deliverables and mastery of learning outcomes.
  • Oversee and analyse data collected from participants with the Coaching & Support Team and use insights to drive programme improvement.

Key Measures of Success

  • Participants’ satisfaction of training content and delivery.
  • Participants' development and growth in teacher competencies, including elements of Participants’ teaching and leadership development, and collegial relationship among Participants and with the organisation.
  • Programme delivery completion, including delivery of regional and national training.
  • Satisfaction of educational stakeholders (e.g. school leadership, SISC+, TPU).
  • Early evidence of improved student outcomes as a result of participant development.
  • Growth and performance of the Design & Training team members under reporting line.

Role-Specific Competencies

  • Strong pedagogical skills in planning and facilitating engaging large scale training sessions for adult learners.
  • Expertise in instructional design and adult learning principles, with a strong understanding of effective STEM-based pedagogical approaches (e.g., inquiry-based learning, project-based learning, design thinking), particularly within the education sector.
  • Proficiency in conducting learning needs assessments, curriculum mapping, and developing contextually relevant training materials.
  • Strong team leader and able to coach, empower and develop high-performing teams and maintain good relationships with internal and external stakeholders including TFM organisation, Program Duta Guru coaches, participants and government stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates strategic thinking by anticipating future trends in education and identifying opportunities for curriculum innovation.
  • Exhibits strong change management skills, effectively leading individuals and teams through transitions.
  • Ability to apply data-driven approaches for monitoring training effectiveness and iterating curriculum design.
  • Able to work independently and think strategically, critically and innovatively, with a resourceful approach to problem-solving.
  • Willing and able to travel independently between multiple work sites within Malaysia, as needed.

Language & Technical Proficiency

  • Excellent proficiency in English and professional working proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia, in both written and verbal communication.
  • Strong ability and proficiency to leverage diverse EdTech tools and platforms to design, develop, deliver, and evaluate training programs. This includes proficiency in:
    • Productivity suites (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Suite)
    • Learning Management Systems (LMS)
    • Online collaboration and communication platforms (e.g., Zoom, Slack, Microsoft Teams)
    • Digital content creation tools (e.g., video editing software, graphic design tools, interactive presentation platforms)
    • Online assessment and feedback tools
    • Data analytics platforms for tracking learning outcomes.
  • Willing and able to readily adopt and utilise any TFM database or technological platform / application (i.e. Google Suites, Confluence, Salesforce, Zoom etc.)
  • Proficiency in softwares for video production and editing, and/or programming skills are added advantages.

Experiences & qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM field preferred; education-related qualifications are an advantage.
  • Minimum 4-6 years of relevant experience in training and facilitation.
  • Experience in content development and facilitating teacher development programmes is highly preferred.
  • A professional qualification or certification in training and development, such as a Train-the-Trainer certification, would be an added advantage.
