OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

A Teacher Coach is also known as the Leadership Development Officer (LDO) focuses on the leadership development of Teach For Malaysia Fellows across the entire duration of the Teach For Malaysia Fellowship for 2 years. They guide Fellows to reflect on their own development as leaders in alignment with the overall objectives of the Teach For Malaysia Fellowship, and support Fellows in internalizing and realizing our Student and Fellow Vision.


MISSION FOR THE ROLE

Since 2022, the Fellowship has been in the process of expanding to multiple pathways:

  1. Teaching Partner Pathway - where Fellows are co-teachers in MOE schools and do not have the option to continue on as teachers in the civil service
  2. Novice Teacher Pathway - where Fellows are MOE teachers within 0-2 years of experience
  3. Contract of Service Pathway - where Fellows are hired into MOE schools under contract for 2 years with the option to continue on as teachers in the civil service


The mission of the Leadership Development Officer is to develop Fellows of the Fellowship programme to be mission-driven and competent leaders who will be lifelong advocates for education in the education ecosystem through coaching and facilitation. 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:


Managing Fellows’ Development

  • Managing a group of Fellows within a Professional Learning Community
  • Coaching Fellows in developing towards achieving the Student Vision personalized conversations
  • Observing Fellows in the classroom and conducting debriefs to ensure pedagogical development 
  • Capturing Fellow development consistently in trackers


Implementing the Fellowship Programme 

  • Collaborate with Training Specialist to provide bespoke Fellow development support  
  • Designing, planning and conducting workshops that support Fellows’ social emotional learning and resilience 
  • Planning and conducting workshops on best practices and for ongoing professional development 
  • Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with school administration, school mentors and various stakeholders


Contributing to the improvement of the Fellowship Programme

  • Analyzing data collected from Fellows with the Programme Team and providing input in improving the Fellowship program
  • Working together with the Training team and Fellow Leadership Board in incorporating Teach For Malaysia mental health and well-being strategy into Fellowship curriculum
  • Continuously developing one’s coaching practice





KEY MEASURES OF SUCCESS

  • Training Content Satisfaction - This refers to the percentage of Fellows that feel that the content is relevant to their needs and satisfied with the content. 
  • Fellow Development Target - This will be shared goal with Training Specialist to ensure Fellows are having sufficient support or opportunity to achieve the leadership development target set
  • Student Outcome - This refers to the percentage of Fellows who meet their student outcomes
  • Stakeholder Engagement - This refers to the percentage of school stakeholders are satisfied with their engagement with TFM

Role-Specific Competencies

  • Strong pedagogical practice alignment to our Student Vision (2+ years classroom practice minimum)
  • Ability to establish and manage a community of Fellows towards achieving collective and personal goals
  • Able to identify support and training needs
  • Ability to personalize support, collaborating with relevant stakeholders 
  • Excellent reasoning, problem solving and process-based thinking skills - including responding to needs of Fellows and staff throughout the Fellowship
  • Experience and enthusiasm working with a team and creating a collegial atmosphere with Teach For Malaysia Fellows


Years of experience & qualification

  • At least 2 years experience working in education sector, preferably in one of the following areas:
  • Classroom practices
  • Community outreach and engagement
  • Social innovation and entrepreneurship 
  • Prior experience in designing and facilitating sessions
  • Coaching/ mentoring experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in any field

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with all levels of employees and stakeholders
  • Able to think strategically, critically, innovatively, and in a resourceful manner
  • Able to build and maintain good relationships with internal and external stakeholders


Language & Technical Proficiency

  • Strong written and verbal skills and excellent proficiency in English and basic proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia
  • Excellent proficiency in MS Word, Powerpoint and Excel
  • Willing and able to readily adopt and utilise any TFM database or technological platform / application (i.e. Google Suites, Confluence, Salesforce, Zoom etc.)
