Role Purpose:

The Senior Manager II, Commercial Strategy leads the development of commercial strategy and investment decisions across Setel’s business lines by evaluating growth opportunities, structuring commercially sound partnerships, and ensuring all major initiatives are supported by robust financial modelling and business cases for leadership and Board approval. The role provides structured commercial insight to inform strategic prioritisation, assesses the viability and return profile of new initiatives, and ensures that investment decisions are aligned with the company’s growth objectives, financial targets, and overall platform strategy.

In this role you will:

  • Own the commercial strategy function, ensuring the business prioritises the right opportunities, makes sound investment decisions, and builds a sustainable revenue base across all business lines
  • Own the end-to-end commercial modelling and business case capability across the full organisation, ensuring every material initiative, partnership, expansion, or new business bet is appraised with the rigour required for management and Board approval.
  • Lead revenue expansion planning across fuel, mobility, fintech, and advertising, identifying and pressure-testing growth levers including new partnerships, campaign design, product line extensions, and market expansion.
  • Direct new business and venture assessment, applying consistent commercial criteria to evaluate emerging opportunities and making clear recommendations on what Setel should pursue, defer, or walk away from.
  • Own commercial terms and deal structuring across strategic partnerships and new business arrangements, ensuring Setel enters agreements that are commercially sound, competitively positioned, and structured to scale.
  • Drive pivot and scenario planning when performance data, market conditions, or competitive dynamics require a strategic response, providing leadership with a clear, evidence-based view of the options and their financial consequences.
  • Functioning as the internal commercial challenge, if a plan does not stack up, this role says so with the analysis to back it up and an alternative path forward.
  • Set the quality standard for every business case and commercial model that reaches senior leadership, and build the capability of the team to consistently meet that standard.

You're a great fit if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or related discipline.
  • MBA or equivalent postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
  • Minimum 10-12 years of experience in strategy, commercial finance, investment analysis, or management consulting.
  • Proven experience in business case development and financial modelling for strategic initiatives or investments.
  • Experience supporting senior leadership and/or Board-level decision-making.
  • Exposure to multi-business or platform-based environments (e.g. fintech, mobility, retail, digital platforms) preferred.

Technical/Functional Skills

  • Advanced commercial and financial modelling across multi-business-line, multi-scenario environments with full command of sensitivity analysis and investment appraisal frameworks.
  • Business case development at management and Board level across a range of initiative types including partnerships, product expansion, new ventures, and market entry.
  • Commercial terms negotiation and deal structuring across strategic and complex arrangements.
  • Market analysis, competitive intelligence, and opportunity sizing with direct application to revenue strategy.
  • Scenario and pivot planning under conditions of market uncertainty and competitive pressure.
  • Deep understanding of platform business economics across fintech, mobility, fuel retail, and digital advertising.
