Role Purpose:

The Manager, Fintech Partnership leads the development, execution, and performance of Setel’s fintech partnerships by driving revenue growth, structuring commercially sound agreements, and managing key relationships across the payments and financial services ecosystem. The role ensures Setel’s fintech vertical achieves its revenue targets while operating effectively within Malaysia’s regulatory and payment infrastructure landscape.

In this role you will:

  • Own the full commercial development and revenue performance of Setel's fintech vertical, with complete accountability for the revenue targets, commercial agreements, and partner relationships that determine how Setel grows and cements its position as a payments and financial services platform across its 2 million user base and the broader Malaysian digital payments ecosystem.
  • Operates at the heart of Malaysia's evolving fintech landscape, staying ahead of regulatory developments, industry shifts, and ecosystem changes driven by BNM, PayNet, and the broader financial system, and translating that intelligence into commercial strategies and partnership structures that keep Setel ahead of the market.
  • Work directly with PayNet to shape the commercial guardrails, participation frameworks, and interoperability standards that govern how Setel operates within Malaysia's national payment infrastructure, ensuring Setel's commercial interests are represented and protected at the ecosystem level, not just the deal level.
  • Lead all commercial negotiations across the fintech vertical including e-wallet merchant partnerships, DuitNow commercial arrangements, payment gateway agreements, and financial institution collaborations, securing terms that support Setel's revenue targets and position the fintech business to scale.
  • Direct the external partnership agenda for fintech, ensuring new commercial relationships across the Malaysian payments and financial services ecosystem are actively pursued, commercially structured, and converted into revenue-generating partnerships alongside the existing base being grown and optimised.
  • Own the fintech revenue number in full, tracking performance across the payments and DuitNow portfolios, identifying gaps and risks with precision, and driving the commercial responses needed to close them before they become revenue shortfalls.
  • Navigate the BNM regulatory environment and its commercial implications with fluency and confidence, ensuring every partnership and deal structure the team pursues is commercially sound, regulatorily defensible, and positioned to withstand scrutiny from both the regulator and internal governance.
  • General Responsibilities: All employees are required to ensure adherence to the compliance of company policies, industry regulations and legal requirements. All employees are expected to assist with tasks, projects, and other duties related to the role, as and when deemed necessary.

You're a great fit if you have:

  • Minimum 8–12 years of experience in fintech, payments, partnerships, or commercial roles.
  • Proven experience in commercial negotiations, partnership development, and revenue ownership.
  • Experience engaging with regulators or payment infrastructure bodies (e.g. PayNet, BNM) preferred.
  • Experience in platform-based or digital payments environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or related discipline.
  • MBA or equivalent is an advantage.
  • Deep understanding of Malaysia's fintech regulatory landscape including BNM e-money licensing policy, payment system frameworks, and the commercial implications of regulatory developments on partnership structuring and deal terms.
  • Direct working knowledge of PayNet's commercial frameworks, DuitNow participation requirements, interoperability standards, and the governance processes through which national payment infrastructure decisions are made.
  • Commercial account management and contract negotiation across e-wallet merchant, payment network, acquiring bank, and payment gateway partnership contexts.
  • Vertical-level revenue management across two commercially distinct portfolios — payments merchant acquisition and payment infrastructure — with different partner profiles, deal structures, and acquisition economics.
  • External partnership pipeline development across the Malaysian fintech and payments ecosystem including banks, payment networks, e-wallet operators, and merchant aggregators.
  • Deal structuring across complex, multi-party fintech arrangements including revenue share models, merchant discount rate negotiations, and payment gateway commercial frameworks.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
