1. Position Summary

The Manager, Local Engagement will serve as the strategic on-ground representative for the Joint Venture, AIZO NTS Sdn Bhd, in Sarawak. The primary focus of this role is to build, nurture, and manage high-level relationships with key Sarawakian utility bodies and government agencies.

You will focus on building strong friendships and professional trust with the right people so that our company is always the first choice for future projects. You will work closely with the Senior Manager from AIZO Bhd to help grow the business.

2. Key Responsibilities

    • Strategic Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary liaison and local face of the company for Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), JBALB, PETROS, and relevant state ministries.
    • Collaborative Partnership: Support and execute engagement strategies directed by the Senior Manager of Business Development (AIZO Bhd), ensuring local Sarawakian nuances are integrated into the corporate strategy.
    • Local Intelligence & Advocacy: Identify "pre-tender" opportunities and gather intelligence on state utility priorities, budget cycles, and infrastructure masterplans
    • Corporate Diplomacy: Facilitate high-level meetings, technical site visits, and corporate presentations between AIZO leadership and local decision-makers.
    • Administrative Navigation: Assist in navigating local regulatory requirements, license renewals, and state-level administrative approvals to ensure smooth operation of the JV.
    • Brand Representation: Uphold the professional reputation of both AIZO Bhd and the JV in all local forums and industry events.

3. Requirements

    • Experience: 7–10 years of proven experience in Government Relations, Corporate Affairs, or Business Development within the Sarawak utility/infrastructure sector.
    • Network: * Must have an established and active network of contacts within SEB, JBALB, or PETROS.
      • Having strong existing relationships in more than one of these agencies will be a significant advantage.
    • Communication: Excellent command of English and Bahasa Malaysia. Fluency in Sarawak Malay or local dialects is highly preferred to build authentic rapport with local stakeholders.
    • People Skills: You are a "people person"—you find it easy to talk to anyone, from site engineers to top government officials.
    • Local Knowledge: You must be a Sarawakian or have lived in Sarawak for a long time and understand how things work here.
    • Personal Attributes: High social intelligence, proactive mindset, and the ability to work effectively as part of a multi-organizational team (JV environment).
