Manager/ Senior Manager- University Rankings & Analytics

GROUP DIRECTORATE
Malaysia

Mid Senior level

About the Role

The Manager of the University Rankings and Analytics Unit is a high-impact strategic role responsible for steering the university's data governance, institutional analysis, and performance tracking across national and international benchmarking frameworks. The successful candidate will orchestrate the end-to-end data lifecycle — from extraction and internal auditing to final submission — ensuring absolute data accuracy and strategic alignment with the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and global ranking bodies. The goal is to optimize the university's institutional profile, research footprint, and operational readiness without sacrificing data integrity.

What You Will Do

  • Design, establish, and maintain a robust institutional data collection repository to capture, normalize, and store academic, financial, research, and student data
  • Serve as the chief verifier for data submissions, ensuring all evidence metrics are accurate, verifiably documented, and compliant with external audit standards
  • Act as the primary bridge between institutional divisions — Human Resources, Academic Affairs, Research Management Centre (RMC), Finance, Student Affairs, and ICT — systematically gathering operational metrics
  • Direct and execute the compilation, trend analysis, and final electronic submission for key performance exercises, including MOHE SETARA, MyRA, QS World University Rankings, QS Asia University Rankings, THE World University Rankings, and THE Impact Rankings
  • Develop data models and scenario tracking to project the impact of changing performance variables (e.g., staff-to-student ratios, citation metrics, internationalization percentages) on future tiers or rankings
  • Translate dense, raw multi-variable datasets into scannable, clear executive reports and action plans for senior leadership
  • Serve as the designated focal point for communications with ranking analysts, data editors, and MOHE ministry officials
  • Work collaboratively with corporate communications to track, manage, and optimize the university's academic and employer reputation survey lists

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Business, Management, Data Analytics, Statistics, Information Management, Performance Management, or a related quantitative field

Essential Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive data analytics experience within a Higher Education Institution (HEI)
  • Proven track record of directly managing and successfully delivering at least 2 full cycles of MyRA, SETARA, and QS/THE institutional submissions
  • Deep functional familiarity with the MyHER platform, e-MyRA portal, and global ranking data submission engines

Technical & Soft Skills

  • Ability to navigate tight timeframes, coordinate with non-technical academic stakeholders, and clearly communicate data infrastructure limits or needs to senior executives
  • Proven resilience in managing moving project scopes and strict regulatory deadlines without compromising quality
  • A meticulous eye for data irregularities, anomalies, and normalization biases
  • Mastery of Excel (advanced modeling, nested logic) and data visualization tools (Power BI or Tableau)
  • Proficiency in SQL or Python for data extraction is highly advantageous
