Job Overview :

The Senior Lecturer, Centre for Research and Graduate Studies (CRGS) is responsible for contributing to the University's postgraduate teaching, research, doctoral supervision, and scholarly activities. The role supports the Director, CRGS in strengthening research productivity, postgraduate student progression, academic quality, and the University's research culture, with particular emphasis on the fields of Management, Business, or related disciplines.

  • Reports to: Director, Centre for Research and Graduate Studies
  • Supervises: Postgraduate research students and research assistants, where assigned

Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Postgraduate Teaching and Academic Responsibilities
    • Teach postgraduate courses in Management, Business, research methodology, and other related areas, as assigned.
    • Develop and update course materials, learning activities, and assessments in accordance with approved curricula and University requirements.
    • Apply appropriate teaching, learning, and assessment methods for postgraduate and adult learners.
    • Undertake assessment, moderation, student consultation, and other academic duties within the required timelines.
    • Contribute to the review and enhancement of postgraduate curricula and research training.

  • Postgraduate Research Supervision
    • Supervise and co-supervise PhD and other postgraduate research students in Management, Business, or related disciplines, subject to the University's appointment criteria.
    • Guide students in research design, methodology, ethics, data analysis, academic writing, publication, and thesis preparation.
    • Monitor student progress and ensure that supervisory meetings, progress reports, milestones, and required documentation are completed on time.
    • Support students in preparing for proposal defence, candidature defence, viva voce, and thesis corrections.
    • Promote timely completion while maintaining the required academic and research standards.

  • Research, Publications, and Grants
    • Maintain an active research agenda and produce high-quality scholarly publications, particularly in Scopus- and Web of Science-indexed journals.
    • Meet the annual research and publication targets established by the University.
    • Apply for internal and external research grants and participate in funded research projects.
    • Develop interdisciplinary, industry-linked, and international research collaborations.
    • Present research at relevant conferences, seminars, and scholarly forums.
    • Contribute to research impact, citations, innovation, consultancy, knowledge transfer, and commercialisation activities, where applicable.

  • Support for CRGS and Postgraduate Management
    • Support the Director, CRGS in implementing research and postgraduate strategies, policies, procedures, and improvement initiatives.
    • Assist with postgraduate candidature matters, research progress monitoring, supervision arrangements, examination processes, and student academic support.
    • Serve on postgraduate, research, ethics, curriculum, and other University committees when appointed.
    • Contribute to the preparation of reports, evidence, and documentation for MyRA, SETARA, MQA, audits, institutional reporting, and other quality assessment exercises.
    • Assist in postgraduate student recruitment, orientation, retention, and academic engagement activities.
    • Maintain accurate and confidential records relating to teaching, research, supervision, and postgraduate students.

  • Capacity Building and Academic Engagement
    • Conduct or support workshops, seminars, colloquia, and training in research methodology, academic writing, publication, supervision, grant writing, and research ethics.
    • Mentor postgraduate students and, where appropriate, less experienced academic staff in research and scholarly activities.
    • Participate actively in the intellectual and academic activities of CRGS and the University.
    • Build professional networks with universities, industries, government agencies, professional bodies, and research institutions.

  • General Responsibilities
    • Comply with University policies, academic regulations, research ethics requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
    • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, collegiality, and accountability in all assigned duties.
    • Participate in University events, meetings, committees, and student-related activities as required.
    • Undertake any other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Director, CRGS or Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) from time to time.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

    • Achievement of the assigned teaching workload and satisfactory teaching evaluation.
    • Achievement of annual publication and research output targets, including indexed publications.
    • Effective supervision and satisfactory progress of assigned postgraduate research students.
    • Submission of research grant applications and participation in funded research projects.
    • Contribution to postgraduate recruitment, retention, progression, and completion.
    • Timely completion of assessment, supervision, reporting, and CRGS responsibilities.
    • Active contribution to research training, seminars, collaborations, and University committees.

Qualifications and Requirements

    • Possess a Doctoral degree in Management, Business, or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
    • Possess relevant academic experience at a recognized higher education institution.
    • Demonstrate the academic expertise and research experience required to supervise PhD students in Management, Business, or related disciplines.
    • Have a good track record of scholarly publications, particularly in Scopus- or Web of Science-indexed journals.
    • Evidence of postgraduate research supervision, grant involvement, and research collaboration is strongly preferred.
    • Demonstrate sound knowledge of research methodology, research ethics, postgraduate processes, and academic quality assurance.
    • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
    • Able to work independently and collaboratively while meeting academic and administrative deadlines.
