Job Purpose:
The Associate Professor is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching, supervising postgraduate and undergraduate students, conducting impactful research, and contributing to the development and enhancement of the Faculty of Medicine. This role also involves leadership in academic administration and fostering partnerships within the medical and academic communities, in alignment with the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Teaching & Learning
- Deliver lectures, tutorials, practical classes, and clinical teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in medicine.
- Design and update teaching materials and curriculum to meet programme outcomes and accreditation standards (e.g., MQA, MMC).
- Use innovative teaching strategies, including blended and problem-based learning.
- Supervise student research projects and clinical placements.
Research & Scholarly Activities
- Conduct independent and collaborative research in relevant medical fields.
- Publish research in indexed, peer-reviewed journals and secure research grants.
- Present findings at national and international academic conferences.
- Mentor junior academic staff and researchers.
Academic Leadership & Administration
- Serve on academic committees and contribute to faculty and university-level strategic planning.
- Lead curriculum review and programme development initiatives.
- Support student recruitment, selection, and retention initiatives.
- Participate in quality assurance and accreditation processes (internal and external).
Professional Engagement & Community Service
- Maintain active clinical practice (if applicable) in affiliated hospitals or clinics.
- Engage with healthcare industry stakeholders and foster academic-industry linkages.
- Participate in community outreach and health promotion programmes.
- Represent the university in professional associations and regulatory bodies.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Academic Qualification:
- A recognised medical degree (e.g., MBBS, MD) and a PhD or equivalent in a relevant field.
- Specialist qualification or Fellowship (if clinical-based discipline).
- Professional Registration:
- Fully registered with the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC).
- Valid Annual Practising Certificate (APC) for clinicians.
- Experience:
- Minimum 8–10 years of academic and/or clinical experience, with at least 5 years in a senior academic or leadership role.
- Strong record of publications, grants, and postgraduate supervision.
- Skills:
- Excellent command of English (and Bahasa Malaysia preferred).
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
- Familiarity with Outcome-Based Education (OBE), MQA standards, and MOHE policies.
