Mid Senior level

Role Overview

As the Art Director, you are the visionary lead responsible for defining and maintaining the visual soul of our projects. You will bridge the gap between our clients’ creative pillars and our production team’s execution. Your role is to set the "Gold Standard" for every asset, ensuring that all output—whether 3D environments, character models, or keyframe animation—is world-class, technically sound, and stylistically consistent.

Key Responsibilities

1. Visual Identity & Quality Control

  • Style Guide Mastery: Interpret creative briefs to establish clear visual benchmarks, style guides, and mood boards for the production team.
  • Artistic Gatekeeping: Conduct regular reviews and provide "paint-overs" or hands-on feedback to ensure every asset meets the established high-quality bar before it reaches the client.
  • Creative Problem Solving: Provide innovative solutions to artistic challenges, ensuring that the visual "wow factor" is achieved within the technical constraints of the engine or pipeline.

2. Technical Pipeline Leadership

  • Pipeline Integration: Good understanding of the full digital art content creation pipeline, including high/low-poly modeling, UV mapping, PBR texturing, and final implementation.
  • Efficiency & Tools: Partner with Technical Artists to identify and execute cost-effective tools and shaders that maximize visual fidelity while minimizing manual effort.
  • Technical QA: Ensure all art assets are optimized for performance (poly counts, texture budgets, draw calls) without sacrificing aesthetic integrity.

3. Team Mentorship & Project Strategy

  • Departmental Growth: Lead, train, and motivate the Modeling and Animation teams. Foster a culture of continuous learning and artistic excellence.
  • Production Partnership: Collaborate with Project Managers to define production quotas, simplify complex breakdowns, and ensure the art team meets delivery milestones.
  • Client Liaison: Present artwork to clients at key milestones, articulating creative choices and professionally incorporating feedback into the production loop.

Job Requirements

  • Experience:
  • 6+ years of leadership experience in Art Direction for AAA games or high-end animation. A proven track record of shipping successful titles is essential.
  • Artistic Portfolio: A world-class portfolio showcasing diverse styles, with a high priority on strong character work and environment storytelling.
  • Technical Expertise: Knowledge of industry-standard software (e.g., ZBrush, Maya/Blender, Substance Suite, Unreal Engine 5, or Unity).
  • Leadership: Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to mentor artists with varying personalities and skill levels in a high-pressure environment.
  • Versatility: High levels of initiative and flexibility; the ability to pivot between different art styles and project requirements concurrently.
  • Communication: Ability to articulate complex visual concepts to both technical developers and non-artistic stakeholders.
