Islands Petroleum is an independently owned fuel and lubes distributor, and the exclusive distributor for Mobil lubricants in Papua New Guinea. With the head office based in Kokopo, Islands Petroleum also operates bulk fuel depots in Rabaul, Kimbe, Konebada, Kavieng, Alotau, Popondetta/Oro Bay and Mt. Hagen as well as lubes and fuel distribution warehouses in Lae, Port Moresby, and Madang.
We're looking for an experienced Lead Pump Technician who will be attached with our engineering team in Port Moresby, NCD.
The Role & Responsibilities
To providing lead direction and ensure that Maintenance for all IP facilities - Execute all tasks of preventive and corrective maintenance is performed accordingly for all sites.
Other key responsibilities include:
- Leadership & Supervision: Lead, train, and evaluate technicians, fitters, and contractors; ensure efficient workforce utilization and high team performance.
- Maintenance & Repairs: Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance, including inspections, lubrication, repairs, and replacements (e.g., seals, bearings, impellers, motors). Perform fabrication, system modifications, and cleaning.
- System Optimization: Diagnose and troubleshoot pump and meter systems; calibrate, align, and balance systems for peak performance.
- Installation & Upgrades: Install and commission new pumping systems, including piping, wiring, and controls. Recommend and implement upgrades, overhauls, or new equipment purchases.
- Asset & Inventory Management: Maintain asset and tool registers, manage spare parts inventory, and raise purchase requisitions based on PM/CM needs.
- Ensure availability of critical equipment.
- Documentation & Reporting: Keep detailed records of maintenance activities.
- Submit timely service reports, PM checklists, and weekly updates on PM/CM completion, service calls, and projects.
- Customer Service & Communication: Address customer inquiries and complaints professionally; attend stakeholder meetings and collaborate with consultants and engineers on site improvements.
- Compliance & Safety: Foster a safety-focused culture and support product/equipment evaluation and procurement.
- Operational Support: Respond to breakdowns during business and off-hours, support site installations, and participate in project commissioning.
- Other Duties: Complete additional tasks as assigned by supervisors or managers.
Candidate Requirements
The person we seek must have the following:
- Mechanical or Fitter-Machinist Trade Certificate
- Minimum 5 years relevant post-apprenticeship work experience, preferably in the downstream aviation - petroleum industry or completion of apprenticeship with major oil & petroleum companies.
- Knowledge of aviation/oil industry machinery and mechanical plant and equipment, Good mechanical aptitude with the ability to maintain, trouble-shoot and repair.
