Islands Petroleum is an independently owned fuel and lubes distributor and the exclusive distributor for Mobil Fuel and lubricants in PNG. With the head office based in Kokopo Islands Petroleum operates bulk fuel depots in the NGI, Momase, Highlands, and Southern regions.

We are seeking to fill the role of a suitably qualified Accountant within our Head Office - Kokopo to lead the accounts payable and budget affairs of the Company.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Accountant / Management Accountant / Finance Manager, the main responsibilities include:


Accounts Payable Responsibilities.


  • Manage pronto - system approvals, PO requisition.
  • Ensure correct postings by the team – creditors reconciliations.
  • Petty cash approval -cheque processing
  • Verification of online prompt payment processing
  • Ensure online funds transfer between branches and reimburse impress accounts are done accurately.
  • Verify daily EFT payments.
  • Manage and record part payments as well as future payments.
  • Overseas payment processing, recording and uploading for online banking.
  • Assist in locating payment history queries, archived payment documents.
  • Liaise with HR in relations to any payment requests, such as staff loan, medical refunds, etc.
  • Verify and checking creditor payments such as monthly rentals.
  • Support month end closing other ad-hoc tasks within the finance group.


Budget Responsibilities.


  • Developing organizational budget with managers
  • Reviewing proposals for completeness, accuracy and compliance with company standards.
  • Consolidating the organizational budget for review.
  • Monitoring spending and keeping the company within its set budget.
  • Efficient, effective, and timely processing of reports
  • Manage well the given task/s
  • Providing on timely and effective Finance support service


Key Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, commerce or a management
  • A CPA Member or in the process of gaining CPA recognition.
  • 10 years minimum industry work experience in accounting/ finance
  • Experience in Pronto is desirable or any other Accounting Software experience.
  • High Level processing and attention to detail
  • Good understanding of accounting principles and strong working knowledge of Excel
  • The capacity for flexibility to meet a broad range of support tasks will be an advantage.
  • Experience with financial reporting requirements
