Islands Petroleum is an independently owned fuel and lubes distributor and the exclusive distributor for Mobil Fuel and lubricants in PNG. With the head office based in Kokopo Islands Petroleum operates bulk fuel depots in the NGI, Momase, Highlands, and Southern regions.
We are seeking to fill the role of a suitably qualified Credit Controller within our Head Office - Kokopo who will be responsible for overall management of the Credit Department and the entire credit granting process, including the consistent application of the credit policy, periodic credit reviews of existing customers, assessment of credit worthiness of potential customers with the goal of optimizing company sales and managing bad dept loses.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Finance, the main responsibilities include:
- Maintain the corporate credit policy.
- Optimize credit management processes.
- Monitor the credit granting and updating processes.
- Create credit scoring models to predict risk
- Identify and classify potential credit customers and update credit limits.
- Personally investigate the largest customer credit applications.
- Develop and recommend policies and procedures in maintain credit controls.
- Provide professional advice and recommendations on income and expenditure.
- Prepare assets, liabilities, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
- Research and assess clients ’credit worthiness and potential revenue and losses.
- Establish and maintain business relationship with corporate clients.
- Manage and maintain customer credit files.
- Manage monthly Financial and internal Reporting.
- Train and Development of Accounts staff
- Maintain compliance with government and company financial legal requirements, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to work after business hours weekdays and on weekends.
Key Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting or Commerce from a recognized Tertiary Institution.
- 10 plus years proven work experience preferably in a similar management role.
- Has taken the lead in the end-to-end completion of the month end process, audit preparation, process improvement and has worked in a tight control environment.
- Proven experience in Managing a Team.
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to create and process financial spreadsheets (Example, in Excel).
- Excellent customer services qualities and business judgement.
- Hands on experience and knowledge in Pronto software is desirable.
- Exposure to a complex retail environment, petroleum industry will be an advantage.
- Excellent planning, time management and organizational skills.
