Islands Petroleum is an independently owned fuel and lubes distributor, and the exclusive distributor for Mobil Lubricants in Papua New Guinea. Islands Petroleum operates bulk fuel and lubricant Depots and Distribution Centres in the Islands, Momase, Southern, and the Highlands regions. Our national head office is based in Kokopo.
We are currently seeking an Accountant (Payables) to work under our Finance Department to be based in our Head Office at Kokopo, East New Britain Province.
The Role & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Finance, the Accountant will be responsible for managing the accounts payable department. This position will communicate with Management, Depots, Departments and suppliers. Key responsibilities include coordinating functions as follows:
- Payments of vendor invoices
- Expense reimbursements
- Preparation of daily deposits for the bank.
- Assist Depot Managers and staff monitor and control expenses versus allocated budgets
- Manage Accounts Payable staff – recruitment, training, monitoring & task delegation
- Manage pronto - system approvals, Purchase Order requisitions
- Ensure correct postings are done
- Petty cash approval and cheque processing
- Verification of online prompt payment processing
- Ensure online funds transfer between branches and reimburse impress accounts are done accurately
- Compile daily EFT payments
- Manage and record part payments as well as future payments
- Overseas payment processing, recording, and uploading for online banking
- Assist in locating payment history queries and archive payment documents
- Liaise with HR in relations to any payment requests, such as staff loan, medical refunds, etc.
- Organize creditor payments such as monthly rentals
- Support month end closing other ad-hoc tasks within the finance group
Candidate Requirements
The person we seek must have the following:
- Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Commerce/Economics or Business Management from a recognized tertiary institution.
- Registered member of CPA PNG
- Minimum of 5 years experiences as an Accounts Payable supervisor or similar
- Experience in Pronto or relevant accounting software
- Computer literate
- Good communication skills both verbal and written
- A team player with good personality
- Exposure to a complex retail environment., petroleum industry is an advantage
- Excellent interpersonal relationship skills
- Excellent planning, time management and organizational skills
- Neat and tidy appearance
