Job Title: Lead Drilling Engineer

Department: Drilling

Reports To: Drilling Manager / Head of Wells

Location: Permata Sapura, KLCC

Job Purpose:

The Lead Drilling Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, and executing safe, efficient, and cost-effective drilling operations. This role provides technical leadership to the drilling team, ensures compliance with regulatory standards, and supports well delivery from planning through execution to post-well review.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the preparation of detailed well design, drilling programs, and cost estimates for offshore/onshore wells.
  • Ensure all drilling operations are planned and executed in accordance with HSE standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance to drilling engineers and third-party contractors.
  • Liaise with subsurface, completions, and well services teams to ensure alignment and integration of well plans.
  • Oversee real-time drilling support and performance monitoring during operations.
  • Manage drilling-related risks and develop contingency plans.
  • Prepare and present drilling proposals and AFE (Authorization for Expenditure).
  • Conduct post-well evaluations, lessons learned sessions, and performance reviews.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and implement new technologies to enhance drilling efficiency.
  • Support vendor evaluation, equipment selection, and contracting strategies.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of drilling engineering experience, including offshore and/or deepwater operations.
  • Proven track record in delivering complex wells safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Strong knowledge of well design, hydraulics, casing design, and drilling software (e.g., WellPlan, Landmark, etc.).
  • Familiarity with international and local regulations, industry standards (API, ISO), and HSE practices.
  • IWCF/IADC Well Control certification (Supervisor level) is required.

Bhd. The PSCs cover Block 4E and Block SK418, offshore hydrocarbon exploration licenses located northeast of Sarawak in Malaysia that were recently awarded to INPEX following PETRONAS’ Malaysia Bid Round 2022.
