Purpose of the role

The person is responsible for managing the Design Activity as well as the design team for this project. The Design Manager is also required to lead a team of Engineers and drafters (about 8 people) to ensure that project targets are being achieved. The Design Manager also has to ensure that the level of performance is achieved. He/she is also responsible for managing the planning, compliance and deliverables to the technical requirements and quality of the work. The design will also be responsible for sizing, specifying and coordinating all Power Supply Equipment to ensure the site constraints and contract requirements are met. 


Organisational Reporting 

The Design Manager will have to report to the System Integration Manager of the project operationally and hierarchically.


Network and Links 

The Design Manager has to coordinate with the Project team, client, operator and contractors of the project


Responsibilities 

  • To ensure that design strategies are developed accordingly
  • To manage the design activity accordingly 
  • To represent the company to clients for design matters and also to explain to client regarding the design approach and design strategies 
  • To ensure that client understands the project to facilitate the design documents approval 
  • To work together with the team and coordinate their work
  • To delegate the design tasks
  • To be a mentor to the team and evaluate their performance 
  • To make sure that specified equipment is fit for the purpose, are compliant with the contract and also ensure that the equipment is verified with a separate reviewer 
  • To manage and follow-up with the activities of the supplier within the project and to ensure that equipment is manufactured as per design and following the contract requirements. 
  • To make sure the Quality Process, RAMS requirement and SHE requirement are taken into consideration and followed accordingly
  • To report the design progress and risk to the project management and participate in the project reporting



Measurement 

The performance will be measured according to the following:


  • Ensure timely delivery of the deliverables (activity completion and report issuance)
  • Quality of the documents 
  • Accuracy of the work done and reported as well as client satisfaction 


Requirements

  • Degree or Professional Certification in Electricity/Electrotechnics Engineering 
  • With 10 years of experience in Electrical or Electromechanical engineering or Testing and Commissioning 
  • Someone who has the following:
  • Leadership
  • Takes initiative 
  • Decision minded
  • Conscientious
  • Rigorous in his/hers work 
  • Has good command of electricity, electrical equipment and protection settings 
  • Has good command of Microsoft Office 


Duration

Two to three years
