Position Summary:
A Commis Chef operates as the assistant to a Demi Chef and Chef De Partie. They perform various kitchen duties, such as assisting chef de parties in meal preparations, receiving deliveries, and rotating stock. A part of their duties is to figure out how much supplies of food will need to be ordered. He/she should be aware of the specific ingredients and their measurement. They are also responsible for tasting meals before they are served to customers, to ensure that it meets the standard. A successful Commis chefs demonstrate excellent organizational skills and are attentive to the kitchen’s needs. Working alongside the Chef De Partie gives the Commis Chef an opportunity to learn and grow as a chef.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Checks the quality of raw and cooked food products to ensure that standards are met.
- Prepare and cook food according to recipes, quality standards, presentation standards, and food preparation checklist.
- Ensures completion of assigned duties.
- Receiving deliveries and verifying that all ordered items are received and are good quality.
- Assists in determining how food should be presented.
- Leads shifts while personally preparing food items and executing requests based on required specifications.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others
- Support team to reach common goals.
- Listen and respond appropriately to the concerns of other employees.
- Serve as a role model.
Desired Qualifications:
- Previous kitchen experience is a big plus
- Positive outlook and outgoing personality
- Great teamwork skills and attention to detail
- Knowledge of hygiene and food safety management procedure is an added advantage.
- Ability to complete tasks on time in order of priority.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize and manage time
- Passionate in food and cooking.
- The ability to demonstrate and execute an exceedingly strong work ethic.
