SCOPE / PURPOSE OF JOB / JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
SUMMARY
The Research Assistant will be working within the team to drive the development of immunotherapy for the cancers that are common in Asia. The researcher will be responsible in testing and developing vaccine candidates and to validate the vaccine candidates using both in vitro and in vivo models. He or she will also contribute to data analysis and to the validation of findings derived from our RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics datasets.
RESPONSIBILITIES
(a) Plan and perform experiments that are necessary to meet direct project goals.
(b) Ensure that the research projects meet the defined objectives in time.
(c) Assist in planning and delivery of high-quality research programs to enhance the Foundation’s reputation for excellence in research.
(d) Assist in ensuring the financial sustainability of the research program.
(e) Assist in the supervision of others undertaking original research leading to high quality publications.
(f) Assist in the delivery of established technical research services that generate income and improve access to new technologies to Malaysian researchers.
(g) Responsible for equipment maintenance, purchasing and stocking consumables, preparing reports for publication and grant organisations, establishing safety standards and ensuring regulatory compliance.
(h) Other responsibilities include:
• To deputise for the Head of Department/Deputy Head of Department when appropriate
• To represent the team and Cancer Research Malaysia when appropriate
• To undertake other administrative tasks as required
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate is someone who will be a pro active member who will put the goals of the team before their own. We seek a member with a strong ethical conscience, willing to make an impactful contribution to patients’ lives as part of a not for profit organization. The member will be part of an evolving team making the most of limited resources. Given the importance of the work, the ideal candidate must be responsible, able to work independently with minimal supervision and have strong attention to detail.
1. Educated to bachelor’s degree level (BSc), with relevant experience in immunology.
2. Experience and skills in immunology and bioinformatics is a strong advantage.
3. Experience and skills in cancer immunotherapy will be a strong advantage.
4. Experience and skills in animal handlings is essential.
5. Possess a valid driving license and own a car/motorcyle
6. Able to be a pro active member of the team.
7. Able to multitask.
8. Assumes full responsibilities within role.
9. The ability to prioritise own workload and work to deadlines
