Job Profile: Assistant Production Manager

Department: Production

Reports To: Production Manager

Job Summary

To support the Production Manager in overseeing manufacturing operations, ensuring production targets, quality standards, and efficiency goals are achieved while maintaining a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities

Production Oversight & Management

  • Supervise daily production activities and ensure adherence to production plans and schedules.
  • Monitor production output, quality, and efficiency, and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Coordinate with production supervisors and team leads to resolve operational issues.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, coach, and motivate production staff to achieve performance and quality targets.
  • Conduct training sessions to develop skills and improve workforce competency.
  • Promote a safe, productive, and collaborative work environment.

Process Improvement & Optimization

  • Identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies in the production process.
  • Implement lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Recommend changes to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and improve quality.

Resource & Inventory Management

  • Ensure optimal utilization of manpower, machinery, and materials.
  • Coordinate with procurement and warehouse teams to maintain raw material availability.
  • Monitor inventory levels and reduce wastage or losses.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure products meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Maintain compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations.
  • Support audits, inspections, and quality control initiatives.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production reports for management review.
  • Maintain accurate records of production performance, downtime, and corrective actions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Production Engineering, or related field.
  • 5–10 years of experience in production or manufacturing, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Knowledge of production planning, lean manufacturing, and quality management systems.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office.

  • Efficiency in manpower and resource utilization
  • Reduction of production downtime and waste
  • Compliance with safety and regulatory standards

Working Conditions

  • Office and production floor-based, involving supervision of operational activities.
  • May require shift work, overtime, or weekend coverage depending on production demands.
  • Exposure to machinery, chemicals, and manufacturing environment hazards (PPE required).
